This was a bedroom recording done by the band that they couldn't get to sound right during mixing. I got to play mix Dr. on this song and the final mix sounds like a different piece of music.
Noteworthy Mix Features: All of the drums were recorded with a Kick Drum Mic and an Overhead only. WIth only a 2 mic setup on such a punchy, dense song, the drums simply did not fit anywhere in the mix... until I used the overhead mic channel to act as a trigger for some homemade drum samples.
The drum performance is 100% real, but by adding supplemental drum samples to the song that could be manipulated independently, I was able to EQ the existing drum overhead channel to take advantage of the original cymbal/ambience without crowding the mix with a metallic, clanging nightmare.
Oh and I re-recorded the bass.
